In today's world, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to have a gigabyte of storage _and_ totally free IMAP (read: ad-free) access to your email store, along with a nice Web-based interface for those times when you don't have Mozilla Thunderbird or Microsoft Outlook handy. FreeMailService.org does not censor your incoming mail. That said, you can tell FreeMailService to hide from your default view messages that you consider SPAM. Unlike GMail, Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, and just about everybody else, though, you're free to make the SPAM/ham decisions yourself any way you want. (FreeMailService provides a relatively conservative filter, which you may use, or you can run your own filter if you prefer.)
